The Schiller-Institute (SI) in Germany hosted an excellent one day conference February 28th titled "To Avoid War and Chaos: Launching the New Silk Road Movement" in Berlin, Germany, with 75 participants from embassies and political institutions, as well as from all walks of life.

The event was opened with two beautiful duets from Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, followed by the Keynote speech, presented via video by Mrs. Helga Zepp-LaRouche, who founded the Schiller Institute more than 30 years ago. Mrs. Zepp-LaRouche is the President of the Schiller Institute in Germany and an international political leader, known as ”The Silk Road Lady” in China. In her briefing, she elaborated the acute danger of a nuclear war, counterposed to the clearly existing alternative, the formation of the BRICS and the new dynamic which is unfolding along with it. Rainer Apel, Schiller Institute Board Member, presented the various dimensions of the Silk Road concept: the exchange of culture, art, science and technology. He elaborated that we have, thus far, the Silk Road on the roadways, the railway system, the Maritime Silk Road, as well as the aviation system with its airports etc. The new aspect of it will be the Silk Road in space, starting with the move for industrialization of the Moon, including mining helium-3 as fusion power fuel on Earth and in space exploration.

A short presentation by a representative of a German-Russian organization dealt with the economic situation of Russia. Focusing on economics, rather than politics, he mentioned that due to the sanctions, trade between Russia and Germany have gone down 20%, which has mainly hit the machine-tool sector. On the other side, Russia's trade relations with China are increasing and opening more opportunities.

A Greek artist spoke about the destruction of Classical art within the 100 years in Europe, and about the necessity to return the artist to his place at the center of public life, so that art can have its effect on the public. He also reported on his recent mission to bring donated medications from Germany to two hospitals in Greece that urgently need it, due to the imposed austerity over the last years.

Executive Intelligence Review, which has pioneered the proposal for the European Land-Bridge for the past two decades, has produced a new Special Report, The New Silk Road Becomes the World Land-Bridge.

After a break, we opened the next series of panels with Italian arias, followed by Stefan Tolksdorf, who reported on his trip to China with Zepp-LaRouche's delegation in 2014. He clearly demonstrated China's anti-imperial character in its approach of building the New Silk Road, as well as many other projects around the globe.

The final presentation, by Schiller Institute Board Member Ulrike Lillge, elaborated the necessity of studying the noblest ideas of cultures in order to hold dialogues with other nations in an appropriate way. For Germany that paradigm is represented by the ideas of Friedrich Schiller and his circles.

As a conclusion to this event, the Schiller Institute Choir performed Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy’s "Verleih uns Frieden gnddiglich" (from Martin Luther's German translation of "In Thy Mercy, Grant Us Peace" or “Dona nobis  pacem.”)

In the audience, representatives from China, Russia, Sri Lanka, and Malaysia, international media, a former East-German ambassador and other significant institutions were attentive and uplifted. Helga Zepp-LaRouche’s keynote address set the tone for the entire event, which was maintained throughout the entire day’s proceedings. Participants there were able to buy the new German version of “The New Silk Road Becomes the World Landbridge” report, and joined the Schiller Institute as members. Many will be joining our organizing efforts for the upcoming events and demonstrations in Berlin, which process will transform not only Berlin, but the world.
